West Coast Swing, Disco, Salsa, Ballroom and Latin all share the same Dance shoes and need a 'Chrome Leather Suede' sole and Rubber Heels with a higher heel being harder to dance in and require a 'Shoe Bag' for carrying / storage and a 'Dance Shoe Sole Brush' (see pic) ... you don't wear these outdoors. The current shoe style, trend or what to wear for the Ladies dance shoe in West Coast Swing is: A 1/2" to 3/4" inch heel - Sandal type low-Heel shoe (see pic), usually Black or Tan. Men wear the Latin Cuban 2" Heel, Black in color, suede (popular) or leather lower and upper (see Pic). Patent Leather shoes suck for Swing (worn by Ballroom Leads usually) and should be avoided, but if you have to wear them, get some Vaseline and apply a little on the big toe and Heel side so they don't stick together when dancing.
Country Western should wear a closed Toe Danse boot, Lindy Hop can wear smooth rubber Soles. Clog, Tap, Buck, Step all wear the same type 'character shoe' as well and have a thicker sole.
