Hal
and Betty Takier were also known as 'the Savoys' after a swing dance step done as a sideXSide pattern. The Takier's
danced in many dance contests, exhibitions and movies. This
couple were also a part of 'the Ray Rand Swingers,' a local
Los Angeles swing dance troupe. Noted as 'one of the innovators'
of the Balboa, which they still danced up untill Hal's death in 2005.
In
1939 Hal and Betty placed second in the 'International Swing Jam',
held at the Coliseum in Los Angeles, which was sponsored
by the legendary Palomar
Ballroom held on Sunday, June 18, 1939. Hal and Betty
would go on to win the coveted'Harvest
Moon Ball' Jitterbug contest held at the Olympic
Auditorium in Los Angeles in 1948. They were nominated and
inducted into the 1990 California Swing Dance Hall of Fame
( Shining Star Award.) |
