B/W Photo 1: Miss Royce is seen here in 1946 with her doves. These doves were trained to disrobe her during her act. Sometimes she used other birds like parrots, McCaws and Cocatoos.
Vintage Burlesque Model: Rosita Royce: Born to Bertha and Dr. C.M. Corrington (dentist). Mrs Corrington reported on the death of her daughter. 'During one of her performances at the New French Quarter on opening night, she slipped on a cigarette butt that patrons would flick upon the stage. The floor was not cleaned during the previous dancers act and she seriously fell on stage. She was taken to the hospital on August 7th. where she underwent surgery but due to her previously being diagnosed with inoperable cancer, the operation failed and she did not recover.'* She was buried in Southern Memorial Park, Miami.
Notes: Danced at the 1939/40 Worlds Fair. Performed in Michael Todd's 'A Night In Venice'. Her pigeon act was called 'the Pigeons of San Marco', and her Macaws titled 'Macaw Strip'. Her G-string Quartette imitated dancers such as Gypsy, Sothern, Hart, Corio etc. Laly Patrick copied Rositas dove routine* (1953). Siska and Yvetter Dare used McCaws in thier acts. Danced in the Gaiety Show 'Bon-Tons' (1942), and 'Slums of Paris' revue at Fays (1942).
