Roxie Hart (aka: Chicago) |
" The low-down story of a high-class gal !" |
--
Synopsis: To try and kick-start her
show-business career, a rather vulgar & low-brow, gum-chewing
Roxie Hart (Ginger Rogers) admits to a Chicago murder (actually
a burglar her husband shot) so the publicity will advance
her dancing career. Whether she actually committed the crime is
irrelevant to Lynn Overmann (Jake Callahan) who promises her a
vaudeville spot and the reporters who fall all over themselves
to give Roxie her 15 minutes of fame. One film headline read:
" Not Guilty Verdict in Trial of Blond Who Shot Friend Six
Times Accidentally!" But Cook County doesn't seem to let
dames swing, and even with top slippery lawyer Billy Flynn (Adolphe
Menjou,) who is the sleaziest err... " best in town"
but it's all something of a gamble for Roxie. Based on fictionalized
account of of a true story. Won a Best Acting Award.

Can Ginger
Rogers
dance without Fred... YOU BETCHA!. This is a very enjoyable film
with Ginger Rogers doing a Tap dance on a metal prison staircase
as well as the Black Bottom dance in a Jail Cell. Written by Nunally
Johnson, based on the play Chicago by Maurine Dallas Watkins. |
