The Valley Swing Dance Club was founded on February 15, 1985 in the San Fernando Valley, California by Sonny Watson and his friend and DJ Kenny Wetzel to spread and promote CALIFORNIA'S OFFICIAL STATE DANCE: 'West Coast Swing' dancing in the San Fernando Valley and neighboring communities. "The Valley Club," as people like to say, started at a night club / restaurant called "El Gatos Mexican Restaurant and Valley Club" in Van Nuys, California with a

grand total of eight members it's first night and today boasts well over three hundred active members. Later moving to a newer location called Sleuth's in the Sherman Oaks Galleria (yes, of Valley Girl fame :) for a number of years, then to the Crest Lounge (later known as Jitterbugs and palladino's), plus a few other locations. Outgrowing the usually small, crowded floors of night clubs we now dance at the American Legion Hall (Main Ballroom) in Reseda, CA., which has the large floor that we need and plenty of free parking, calling these Dance Night spots home to its members over the years.

      The V.S.D.C. has hosted a weekly dance every week except Christmas and New Years since 1985, which was originally on Tuesdays and only until recently when they switched to Wednesdays. Wednesday night dances consist of some of the best West Coast Swing Dancing with top notch WCS dance instruction that you can only get thru a Swing Club taught by many time WCS Swing dance champions as well as U.S. Open Swing Dance Champions "Sonny Watson and Deanna Mollmann" plus the DJ'ing of Sonny on the last Wednesday of the month with the other weeks being deejayed by one of the best West Coast Swing DJ's in the country ... Jack Smith.

     Membership is never a requirement only a benefit. V.S.D.C. Members receive special discounts to all club activities as well as discounted admission fees $2.00 off as well as $1.00 off to other Sister-club WCS dances throughout SoCal. Members receive first choice on Convention Tickets as well as sometimes discounts when offered to us, Capezio Dance Shoes discount (canoga park store only), Very Fine Dance Shoes, Video's, AV World Travel, Kippy's Belts discount, etc. as well as many dance stores offer our members a discount. As and added bonus when signing up for Sonny's master dance classes you can receive an additional $5.00 off his classes when signing up for the full 6 week Sunday Master Class registration plus more. So, as you can see this can really save you some money over a short period of time and in this economy, every dime helps. Plus, it is fun to be a member of something.

How to Join

    Becoming a card carrying-member is not necessary, only an added benifit to active dancers. If you would like to be a member it is really simple. You just need to participate (dance) on a regular basis, really like West Coast Swing and be a good person. The cost per year is only $30.00 dollars. Membership can have a tremendous savings value at over $150.00 through out the year. If you have an interest in being a part of the "Valley Swing Dance Club." Apply at the door at our weekly dance or you may apply thru Sonny personally (or on-line). Membership is not a requirement at any class, dance or function, only a benefit.

Valley Swing Dance Club Jackets

    Club Jackets are available for purchase but not available online. If You are interested in purchasing those HOT looking "V.S.D.C. Club Jackets," see Sonny personally or by email. However you do need to be a current member and in good standing to get one.

    These are all black 'Suede' leather Lettermen's jackets with two outer pockets and one inner pocket, zipper front with collar. Sizes run from Small to X-Large. Color is only in Black. Jacket costs are $175.00 (Black Suede jacket alone is $100.00 and the embroidery is $65.00). Because these are real Suede Leather Jackets you should not to wear them in the rain.
