Accompaning Newspaper article states:
|
| Trapped in the narrow
corridors of the flaming, two-story building that housed the Pathe
company's sound film studio in New York, these four girls were burned
to death in the flimsy, bespangled ballet costumes in which they
were being filmed for a miniature music revue. Catherine Porter,
16, lower right, had been called one of Broadway's most promising
dancers. She was trapped in a stairway as she sought to escape the
swiftly spreading fire. Edna Buford, 23, upper right, was rescued
from the burning fire but died later in a hospital. Norine Byrd,
23, lower left, was a Broadway musical comedy star known on the
stage as Betty Byrne. She had laughed at the warning of fire, according
to companions, and refused to leave the studio. Jola Sparks, upper
left, had danced in Broadway shows under the professional name of
moreno. |
