Giovanni Mateo Mario

--Had his debut at the Paris
Opéra in 1838. He was the original Ernesto in Donizetti's
'Don Pasquale' as well as the heir to the great romantic
parts held by Giovanni Rubini. He was common law married
to dancer Carlotta
Mario and Grisi's personal relationship lasted until her
death in 1869, but they were said to never be able to
marry. the two had
a daughter, Mrs. Godfrey Pearce.Mario
retired from the Stage in 1871.
