Aida
Overton
was already an accomplished actress and dancer when she
married
George
Walker. Aida started her career in the
chorus of 'The Black Patti Troubadours' minstrel group where
she met George Walker in 1898.
She became William's and Walker's
leading lady and choreographer starring in Cakewalk,
Buck and Wing and
eccentric dance exhibitions
and would lead another famous vaudeville act, 'Aida Overton-Walker
and her Panama Girls' in 1911.
After her husband became too ill to perform in 1909, Overton
often dressed up in his costumes and played George's role
in 'Bandana Land,' which was the last production of the
Williams and Walker Company. Overton later danced with the
Black Patti Troubadours and on Broadway with the Smart Set
Company. |
