     Gabriel and Pauline are credited for introducing the Polka to the United States in 1844. De Korponay was a retired /exiled officer in the Hungarian Army who later became Captain/ Colonel of the American Army's 28th Pennsylvania Volunteer Infantry.

     Pauline danced with Fanny Elssler at the Park Theater in New York in the 1840s, they did Pauline's dance The New Polski Mazurka. (Picture shows Pauline and Gabriel doing the Polka in 1848). The Polka they did was one of the most liked of all the Polkas introduced at the time.
