Started her career
in Cuba at the age of 17 and achieved recognition in Cuba for
her unique dancing skills, becoming a star at Cuba's National
Theatre in Havana. and used the native Latin
Rhythms such as Mambo,
Son etc and fused them with the classic Bump and Grind routines.
Later in the fifties and sixties, she left Cuba for Paris, where
she performed and obtained the nickname "The Cuban H-Bomb
while working at the Follies' Bergere' in Paris, France.
Later, she would
start appearing in European films such as "Sign of the Gladiator"
and later a few American films like The Good, the Bad and the
Ugly with Clint Eastwood. She was well-known for playing femme
fatales with fiery tempers and sensual dance scenes. One of her
performances in the film "Goliath and the Barbarians"
earned Alonso the "Italian Cinema's Female Discovery"
award.
Now retired, Alonso
moved to a farm in Siena in Tuscany, Italy and started a cat-breeding
business, a four-star hotel and opened a fattoria, (a small dining
establishment.) |
