The Duke Is Tops (aka: The Bronze Venus)

-- Synopsis:
A classic African-American film. Duke (Ralph Cooper) plays a theatrical producer puts aside his own success to boost the career of a young, talented singer as the Bronze Nightingale or Bronze Venus (Lena Horne.) Ralph Cooper is best remembered as the MC at the Apollo Theater. Lena Horne makes her film debut and Duke Ellington does not appear in this film. The DVD version includes Van Beuren Studios animated Mr. Bang, a newsreel with footage of Hitler, the Hindenberg disaster, and Joe Louis preparing for a fight.

* Features:
There is a half-dozen " specialty" acts in this film. It shows some great historical figures in dance such as Willie Covan and Rubberneck Holmes doing their thing, plus ... Lena Horne. Plenty of average chorus line dancers. If you are a fan of early jazz and African-American cinema and/or dance, like Tap dance this is an excellent film to own.
