Synopsis: A classic African-American
film. Duke (Ralph Cooper) plays a theatrical producer puts aside
his own success to boost the career of a young, talented singer
as the Bronze Nightingale or Bronze Venus (Lena Horne.) Ralph
Cooper is best remembered as the MC at the Apollo Theater. Lena
Horne makes her film debut and Duke Ellington does not appear
in this film. The DVD version includes Van Beuren Studios animated
Mr. Bang, a newsreel with footage of Hitler, the Hindenberg disaster,
and Joe Louis preparing for a fight.

There is a half-dozen "specialty" acts in this film.
It shows some great historical figures in dance such as Willie
Covan and Rubberneck Holmes doing their thing, plus ... Lena
Horne. Plenty of average chorus line dancers. If you are a
fan of early jazz and African-American cinema and/or dance, like
Tap dance this is an excellent film to own.
