Mother (aka: Little Mother, My 5th
Avenue Girl) |
--
Synopsis: They don't make Musicals
like this anymore with Ginger
Rogers as the sweet American girl next door. Polly Parish
(Rogers) is a department store salesclerk about to be laid off
after the Christmas holiday, who happens to be passing an orphanage
when a woman leaves a baby on the doorstep, Ginger of course picks
the baby up and the orphanage assumes that Rogers is the mother,
despite her protests. The plot expertly weaves a delightfully
funny web of assumptions and denials, with Rogers, Niven, and
Coburn being expertly cast together.
*
It is innocent enough for children yet entertaining for adults.
Not alot of dancing but Ginger does showcase her East
Coast / Jitterbug
ability with Gene "Shadow" Cole which she learned from
Hermes Pan
in a dance contest in this film. Also an excellent family Christmas
movie. |
